Artists

Thanks for your interest in enSight! We're not quite ready to accept artists submissions yet, but we will be within a few weeks. To find out if enSight is for you, read on...

The enSight process

  1. You'll select a science image from the gallery that moves you (inspired, intrigued or otherwise). Bookmark it or take note of its reference number which you will find below the image.
  2. Sketch, scribble or jot down your initial gut response to this image alone, out of its context. Free your imagination! Scan this reaction as an image file (jpeg, gif or png; no more than 2MB) and have it ready to upload, or alternatively have the text ready to type in.
  3. Compose an informal email to the scientist about what their image speaks to you. Remember, to satisfy your curiosity and ask lots of questions: these answers could influence your final perception and construction of the final installation.
  4. You'll receive information about the research that the image is part of. You and the scientist should then discuss your impressions of the image, the research, and ideas artistic or otherwise which stem from this.
  5. Create the final piece, in any media, triggered by the original science image and perhaps molded by your discussions with the researcher.

The final montage will be a triptych installation with the first panel being the original science image, the second of the artist's initial reaction and the central piece the final result after your communication with the scientist. It will be exhibited in Edinburgh in March 2007 and online thereafter. The deadline for artists submissions will be 1st March 2007.

Important note: At present we have not yet secured the funds necessary to run the exhibition though we're confident that we will do so, as last year. If by any chance the exhibition cannot proceed, the core of the project as described above will take place regardless and the results will be exhibited online.
